In an era when the automotive industry is celebrating many milestones and anniversaries, the cars of yesteryear are being celebrated as much as those of the present and tomorrow. Motul, one of the world’s leading motorsport lubricant specialists, will be marking its own 60th anniversary in 2014 of its involvement with the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, and is delighted to announce a new partnership agreement which wholly reflects its presence in each of those decades.
In 2014, Motul will become the official lubricant partner to the Le Mans Classic event which takes place at the home of endurance racing, the ‘Circuit des 24 Heures’ in Le Mans, and which will welcome more than 500 cars on track and some 8000 further vehicles from car clubs around the globe. Organised by Peter Auto, the 7th July 2014 in front of more than 100,000 spectators.
Widely recognised as one of the world’s leading classic events, Le Mans Classic has been – until now – one of the last Sarthois events not to benefit from Motul’s competition experience and lubricant expertise. An impressive 195 cars have carried Motul’s name and colours at Le Mans since 1972, so the brand is already firmly established not just at the 24 Hours Le Mans, but also the 24H Moto and the Grand Prix de France. With its new ‘official lubricant partner’ status, plus sponsorship of the Le Mans Classic Grid 5 (cars from 1966/1971), Motul will be extending its reach in the historic vehicle market and to the wider public who so appreciate Car club members and classic car owners will be able to benefit from Motul’s complete range of historic vehicle lubricants and care products which cater to the very specific needs of cars built in a bygone age. For example, Motul’s SAE 30 and SAE 50 are suitable for engines and gearboxes built between 1900 and 1950, while the 20W50 and 15W50 lubricants are more suited to models produced from 1950 to the 1970s. All know they can count on this Motul range dedicated to historic vehicles, as well as on the 300V Motorsport line range particularly adapted to historic racing vehicles with rebuilt engines.
Internationally recognised as a name representing reliability and performance in endurance racing, Motul and Le Mans are intrinsically linked and it occupies a vital place in Motul’s motorsport strategy – as witnessed by the company’s photographic archives which document its presence at the track as far back as 1954. Events held at Le Mans provide the ideal living test bench for new technologies, improved performance and consistent reliability – all key factors for consumers throughout its 90 markets worldwide – and Motul’s working relationship with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) has gone from strength to strength. At 2013’s 90th anniversary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Motul name was very well represented through its support of no less than 14 different cars (including the LMGTE Am class winner), grid girls and its own Motul grandstand. The same red and white colours will now be widely seen at the Le Mans Classic from 2014.
